Strengthening works to AG Wrights Sluice Gates in Denver, Norfolk begins today. The inlet sluice, which controls flood water from the river Cam and the Fens to the flood relief channel of King’s Lynn, was built in 1957. There are six simply supported concrete beams spanning between three towers that that are showing signs of failure in both flexure and shear. Fibrwrap UK is retro-fitting these six beams using its unique Tyfo Advanced Fibrwrap Systems.
The high strength, lightweight system is perfect for carrying out these kind of repairs, which are difficult to access over water. The contract is expected to take four weeks and is part of a full refurbishment contract by Birse Civils on behalf of The Environment Agency.
As we continue to grow as a company in what we still view as an adverse construction market we have outgrown our main office in Cottingham. From Monday the 15th October we will be fully operational from our brand new offices at Newlands Science Park in Hull. The move only takes us a few miles down the road but our new office is much larger and brighter with enough space for our expanding resources.
We are delighted to welcome Tim Lambert to the Fibrwrap Family, Tim will be joining us from Monday 15th October as Works Manager. From gaining many years’ experience in the construction industry at all levels of management Tim will be responsible for operational and commercial activities on our projects across the UK. We are delighted that Tim has agreed to working with us and bring his skills and enthusiasm to Fibrwrap UK.
Work has just finished on strengthening works at Harp House London for the Italian Government. The works were spread over 6 floors and took 4 weeks to complete. More information on this and all of our projects can be found on our website www.fibrwrap.co.uk
Summer 2012 brought our first Erosion Protection project in the UK. Commissioned by Bristol Port Company in partnership with McBains Cooper Consulting Engineers we successfully wrapped 3 concrete pier support columns with Tyfo SEH51(A) system using Tyfo SW1 (underwater), WP and S epoxies. The project took 6 weeks working within tide times and shipping and is designed to protect the columns from further erosion and extend the life of the pier supports.
As the construction market has shown a further decline in QTR 2 Fibrwrap UK has continued to grow. Orders are up already on the whole of 2011 and enquiries are also up 90% on this time last year. Praise has to go to the dedication and hard work of our sales and marketing team.

After the catastrophic earthquakes in Italy during last month, unreinforced masonry bell towers in the stricken area, most of which have faced serious structural damages, create danger for inhabitants leaving around them. Many people are not allowed to access their homes, even not damaged during the earthquakes, just because of the danger of total collapse of the towers.
Fyfe Europe engineers have visited the area together with Fibrwrap Italia team right after the strong tremors and they suggested an emergency repair solution to help faster recovery of the people. Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Composite System was suggested as the urgent post earthquake measure for a ready to collapse bell tower in Emilia Romagnia region. Fibrwrap Italia general manager, engineer Renato Parretti talked yesterday in RAI tv and explained the situation.
Life has to be continued after the earthquake. Fyfe Europe is there to support.

In addition we have teamed up with INEOS Enterprise’s Brine & Water Business to repair two large cast iron pipes that have developed minor leaks; the works are expected to start in September and should take 3-4 days for each repair. The pipes will operate under reduced pressure whilst works take place to minimise disruption to operations.

August brings the first of two contracts with INEOS Enterprises. The first project is strengthening of four hollow circular steel columns 16″ diameter x 12′ high. These columns support a 300 tonne evaporator vessel at their Salt plant in Runcorn, Cheshire. The columns require strengthening and protection due to their long-term exposure to salt products. Two layers of our SHE-51A glass fibre system with Hoops of SCH-41-5 between each layer will not only add considerable strength very quickly but also protect the columns for many years to come. Works are due to be carried out while the evaporator is in full use so as not to disrupt production in any way.
