Strengthening of Bearing Structure – Athens, Greece | 24/06/2015

The listed building “Fotinio” was built in the early 1910’s and it was one of the first with reinforced concrete bearing structure. It is a 5-storey building and has 3.000m2 total surface area.

Fibrwrap Contractors SA was contracted to perform repair and structural upgrade works so that the building could be conform to the new building and Seismic Code. The main problem was that, the slabs from level 2 and upwards was failing due to moisture. All slabs and beams were repaired and strengthened with the use of Tyfo Fibrwrap Glass fiber (SEH) systems and Tyfo S Epoxy. The requirement for a minimum increase of dead weight load on existing members made the use of FRP technology to be the logical solution. Also the need for a small time frame
for the repair works was met with absolute success.
